On my own
This website
Ongoing · built in the open
- Problem
- I didn’t want a portfolio. I wanted the thinking itself to be the site. That meant building understanding-first, not screen-first, and seeing whether the understanding could carry all the way to something built.
- Constraints
- One person. No design team, no dev team. And a bar I didn’t want to miss: it could not look like it came out of a machine.
- Process
- I wrote the spec as plain thinking. The palette, the voice, the rooms, the manifesto. Then I built from that document with an AI, reviewed every screen, and sent it back until it read as mine.
- Outcome
- The site you’re reading. Built from a document that was really just me thinking out loud.
- Lessons
- The understanding was the hard part, and the real part. Once it was clear, the building went faster than I was ready for. I’m still deciding how much to trust that.
